My story

My own past taught me
how much it matters to be heard.

Hello, I'm Kloris, a counselling psychologist.

Many people imagine that anyone working in psychology or counselling must be one of the lucky ones, someone who's never carried much trauma and has sailed through life, and that's how they can hold space for other people's emotions.

In fact, there's a concept in psychology called the Wounded Healer, and that's the kind of person I am. I grew up amid all sorts of family difficulties, and there was a time I skipped school more than I attended. I came to know the helplessness and impermanence of life intimately, yet it was these very experiences that, in their own roundabout way, shaped me into a counselling psychologist, and let me see the possibilities within a life.

I'm also grateful that my earlier work brought me into contact with people from many different cultures, races and religions. It widened my world and taught me to understand life from different angles, and to embrace diversity.

And years of working with sign language and the Deaf community have given me a deeper understanding of children with diverse learning needs and their parents.

Inner Voice · Why these names

So much of our unhappiness
comes down to not enough communication.

As I studied counselling and psychology, I noticed two sides to this. On one hand, we may not be able to communicate well with the people around us, feeling unheard and unable to hear each other's hearts. On the other, we may not be able to communicate well with ourselves, until we can no longer even hear what's truly on our own mind.

And so we find these relationships hard, sometimes unbearable, and go through a great deal of pain and hurt. And so we reach a point where we no longer seem to know what we even want, lost in a whirlpool of emotion.

The truth is, perhaps neither you nor the other person ever meant to cause harm. Somehow, that goodwill and love stayed locked away in each of your hearts, never reaching the other shore. The truth is, perhaps you never wanted to sink into pain either. You just never had the chance to listen to what was on your own mind, until that inner voice was drowned out by the rush of the world.

So I started to wonder: if we had the chance to truly understand one another's inner world, and to truly listen to our own, perhaps the world would feel a little different.

That's why I created a page called "心態導賞員 (the Inner Voice guide)", hoping to take people on an inner journey from the perspective of counselling psychology, into your own or another's inner world, to hear the forgotten, the unspeakable things that live on your mind.

For the same reason, I founded Inner Voice Counselling Studio, hoping to offer everyone a place where it feels safe to say what's on your mind. If you're facing a hard season of life, or simply need to be heard, you're warmly welcome to reach out.

Inner Voice logo

The little story behind the logo

You might wonder why the right half of the heart in the Inner Voice logo is a different colour. The mark is built on a beating heart, and the right half of that heart is an ear, a symbol of listening to the heart. The two shapes are deliberately kept apart. My hope is that through counselling, I can hear what's truly on your mind, and that you can come to hear your own inner voice too. This inner voice goes beyond language: whether you use spoken words or sign language, even body language and facial expression, it all reflects your heart, and I hope to read those voices together with you.

"
It felt like talking to a friend. I was completely at ease. There was always something to think about or chat about, and she'd gently check in on how I'd been.

This service helped me a lot. I used to feel so lost about the road ahead, unsure how to choose, but it gave me a rough sense of direction, helped me set some goals, and grew my confidence.
